Introduction
The 12th Five-Year is an important chapter in the development of archaeological work in Xuzhou. In the past five years, our archaeological work has yielded spectacular results under the aborative guidance of the Jiangsu Province Bureau of Cultural Relics, correct leadership Xuzhou Bureau of Cultural Relics and substantial support of relevant departments. Xuzhou Museum, which combining archaeological excavation with exploration of regional culture and cultural heritage conservation, participated in massive state-level or provincial-level infrastructure constructions and archaeological projects actively, such as South-to-North Water Diversion, Taidong River Project, Zhengzhou-Xuzhou Passenger Dedicated Line, etc. In addition, Xuzhou Museum proactively implemented a large number of archaeological work which were focused on the development of Xuzhou and the basic construction of five counties and five districts of Xuzhou.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan, Xuzhou Museum has completed a total of 48 archaeological works, including 14 archaeological survey and prospecting, 34 archaeological excavations. In the aggregate, 327 tombs were excavated, nearly 8000 square meters ruins or sites were uncovered and more than 4000 pieces (sets) of cultural objects were unearthed.
This exhibition is an introduction to the new archaeological discovery and a concentrated demonstration of the results of archaeological work during the 12th Five-year in Xuzhou. We hope that the exhibition will narrow the distance between the archaeology and the public and promote the sharing of the protection of cultural heritage.
