In order to implement the strategy of Chinese culture "going abroad", Xuzhou Museum further tapped collection potentials, and innovated outreach patterns. It organized 5 outbound exhibitions and 2 inbound exhibitions independently or jointly, which got a good reputation.
This year, Xuzhou Museum further tapped, generalized and collected the current museum cultural relics, repositioned the Han Dynasty cultural features in Xuzhou carried by Han Dynasty treasures and represented by "Han Jade", and elaborately planned and implemented the outreach series of Han Dynasty cultural relics, which were successively exhibited in countries like the US and Germany and cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The four exhibitions of Han Dynasty cultural relics held in three major cities in the US made a big hit, have expanded the influence of culture of the Han Dynasty in Xuzhou, and boosted Xuzhou's brand and image of history and culture.
Among them, the exhibition for treasures of the Han Dynasty from Xuzhou Museum, with the theme "Dreams of the Kings: A Jade Suit for Eternity" opened on May 23rd this year and is now on display in China Institute Gallery in New York. The exhibition has been organized independently by Xuzhou Museum, and jointly planned by Xuzhou Museum and China Institute Gallery. As the first cultural relics exhibition organized independently by Xuzhou Museum in the US, it has displayed 106 pieces of heritage boutiques, including the jade suit, in 76 groups in total.
An exhibition titled "Tomb Treasures: New Discoveries from China's Han Dynasty" was on display in Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, US from Feb. 17th to May 28th. The exhibition was jointly organized by Xuzhou Museum, Nanjing Museum, Yizheng Museum and Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, US. Twenty-one pieces of heritage boutiques in the Han Dynasty, including the jade coffin from Xuzhou Museum, were exhibited.
An exhibition titled "Age of Empires: Chinese Art of the Qin & Han Dynasties" was on display in Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, US from Mar. 27th to July 16th this year. This exhibition was not only a key program on Sino-America cultural exchanges in 2017, but also a Chinese cultural and artistic exhibition in the US with the largest scale and the most profound influence. Twenty-one pieces of treasures in the Han Dynasty from Xuzhou Museum appeared in Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In organizing and planning the exhibition, Xuzhou Museum integrated the philosophy and approach of "innovation" into program plan, theme design, exhibits selection and display, so as to improve the attraction and public concern of the exhibition to the maximum. As a result, the People's Government of Xuzhou City has included the outreach series of Han Dynasty cultural relics in the innovation award programs.
The orderly implementation of Xuzhou Museum's outreach series has displayed the urban culture image of Xuzhou, greatly enhanced Xuzhou's international influence, and given more and more countries an understanding of the profound Han culture in Xuzhou. Thus, it has played an active role in inheriting Chinese excellent traditional culture and promoting the Chinese culture to "go abroad".
