The content of the Lecture:
Xuzhou, the hometown of the founder of Han Dynasty Liubang, is the origin of Han culture. Powerful Han Dynasty echoed with ancient Rome Empire in the west, and become the strongest empire in the world at that time.
During the 400-year of two Han period, there were 13 Kings of Chu and 5 Kings of Pengcheng in Xuzhou. Therefore there should be 18 tombs of king here. Moreover, in the today’s administrative Xuzhou region, there was a Xiapi State and 4 Kings of Xiapi in Eastern Han Dynasty. These tombs were magnificent like underground palace and fully buried with treasures and savings. These mausoleums are one of “three greats” of two Han Dynasties Culture in Xuzhou.
Professor Wei considers that the Han Culture in Xuzhou represented by Han Tomb in Shizishan dominated in east and even could stand up to imperial capital. The reasons for the profound and unusual connotation of Han Culture in Xuzhou, firstly, is the comprehensive inheritance and development of the culture of pre-Qin and Chu, namely, the culture essence of early southern China; secondly, is the convergence of the culture of prairie, west and the South China Sea. From Spring and Autumn to Qin and Han, nations hegemony wars quieted down and become unification. The civilization China changed from farming to all-embrace. Han was the world of people at that time. Therefore, Han Culture in Xuzhou has an extremely high historical position.
