Zheng Xie (1693-1765), whose courtesy name was Kerou and pseudonym was Banqiao, was native of Xinghua, Jiangsu. As one of "Eight Eccentric Artists of Yangzhou", he was engaged in poems, calligraphy and paintings, especially his paintings of orchid and bamboo and calligraphy. This piece of calligraphy inhibits the techniques of Ou Yangxun and Huang Tingjian, and forms its own style with seal script and clerical script. This scroll planting chant in running script represents a typical style of Zheng Banqiao's calligraphy, where the characters are in different sizes, good structure, and form an integrated design. It is an authentic large piece of calligraphy by Zheng Banqiao.
